CBD Oil For Energy

If we are being honest with ourselves, many of us can safely say that our energy levels aren’t what they used to be. Maybe our work is so demanding that we feel exhausted when we get home, maybe we’re dealing with intense brain fog due to some inflammation in the body, or maybe we’re just so stressed out and burnt out that we feel depleted even after we’ve fully rested. Let’s explore some options including using CBD oil for energy.

Of course, a lot of times, there are adjustments we can make to our lifestyles to support better energy, focus, and motivation. Simple changes to our diet, exercise, stress management skills, and even our jobs can dramatically improve how we feel each day. But, there’s another way you can support your body’s natural energy homeostasis, which is cannabidiol (CBD).

For those who don’t, the dominant chemical compound in hemp, and one that has been researched for several decades. We know that as a cannabinoid, cannabidiol can work with our innate energy cycle to strengthen it, rather than acting as a stimulant. So, instead of relying on coffee and sugar all day to quickly enjoy an energy boost, CBD is likely a far better option. But, how does CBD oil give you energy, and what do you need to know before starting a routine with CBD for energy?

The Role of the Endocannabinoid System in Our Energy Levels

Before we get into the specifics of cannabidiol, we need to talk about the endocannabinoid system and how it affects our energy levels throughout the day. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a bodily system that was discovered 30 years ago, and has been found to be the key between the cannabinoids we take and their potential benefits.

The endocannabinoid system is a complex system of endocannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors (CB receptors). Cannabinoid receptors are located all throughout the body, in every organ and bodily system. Simultaneously, the body produces endocannabinoids that are sent to these cannabinoid receptors, producing a chemical reaction that allows receptors to regulate the functions of their adjacent bodily processes. The ECS is tasked with keeping us in homeostasis, and it does this by constantly sending cannabinoids to cannabinoid receptors so that bodily processes can be regulated, promoting a feeling of balance while allowing us to feel our best.

Cannabinoid receptors in the nervous system have a tremendous impact on our energy levels, and one of the most common signs of an endocannabinoid deficiency is a lack of energy, focus, and motivation. Endocannabinoid deficiencies are common, and that’s where phytocannabinoids enter the fold. Phytocannabinoids are simply cannabinoids derived from plants, and they’re found in cannabis – in this case, hemp, the federally legal member of the cannabis genus that is naturally abundant in CBD.

Hemp-derived cannabinoids supply the ECS with what it needs to bring us closer to homeostasis. These cannabinoids also support the production of endocannabinoids like anandamide, which regulates important brain functions including cognition and mood.

Does CBD Give You Energy?

Now, let’s take a closer look at the link between CBD and energy. If you’re interested in using CBD for energy and focus, you’re in luck, as decades of research support your decision. Cannabidiol has been explored as a wake-promoting agent, so it may enable the body’s ability to produce energy-boosting neurotransmitters like cortisol in the morning. Now, we know what you’re thinking – isn’t CBD supposed to be calming, and make us feel sleepy? Well, here’s where things get interesting. As a cannabinoid, CBD doesn’t act as a hypnotic – aka a sleep-inducing drug. Instead, cannabidiol works with the body’s natural circadian rhythm, to help promote sleep-enhancing hormones in the morning, while promoting wake-inducing hormones during the daytime.

In addition to that, CBD seems to play a powerful role in our cognitive function as well. Studies have shown that cannabidiol may be able to boost important cognitive processes like memory, focus, motivation, mental stamina, and problem-solving skills, essentially sharpening the brain and making us feel more alert. This comes from the cannabinoid receptors located in the cognitive region of the brain, which use cannabinoids like CBD to regulate this important physiological function.

Now, if you’ve ever wondered, “Does CBD help focus?” then there is enough research out there to suggest that it certainly does.

What is CBD Oil?

One of the most popular forms of cannabidiol for an energy boost is CBD oil. CBD oil comes in a bottle with a dropper cap, and also is an incredibly versatile product that can be added to food or even applied topically. But by far, the most common way to take it is as a tincture, meaning that the oil is poured below the tongue and held there to absorb. This offers a very direct means into the bloodstream, making it a highly bioavailable delivery method.

CBD oil is easy to work into a daily routine, and most people simply take a whole dropper each day, so no measuring is required. The formula of CBD oil is usually quite straightforward, containing just hemp extract that’s rich in cannabidiol, along with a carrier oil and possibly some natural flavoring for good measure. CBD oil comes in a wide variety of milligram strengths (potency levels based on the number of milligrams), so that users can decide how potent they want each dropper to be.

When taken as a tincture, CBD oil takes effect in about 20-45 minutes, and lasts for about 3-5 hours. Keep in mind also that many of the potential benefits you can derive from CBD oil which relate to energy are cumulative, meaning that the more consistently you take CBD oil, the more you’ll be able to sustain positive results.

What is the Best CBD Oil Dosage for Energy?

When it comes to the exact dosage for each individual, that’s hard to say. There are simply too many factors to take into account. Before we offer general dosing guidelines, let’s briefly go over those factors.

  • Body Weight: Your body weight definitely influences how many milligrams of CBD you should try taking each day.  Those with a higher body weight will likely benefit from a higher dosage.
  • Endocannabinoid System: Each person’s endocannabinoid system is unique, in terms of how many endocannabinoids they produce, and how many cannabinoid receptors they have.  These things can influence how sensitive a person is to the positive effects of CBD.
  • Severity of Symptoms: Typically, the more severe the symptoms, the more CBD one should consider taking.

Considering all of the above, a great place to start is 25mg-40mg. This is a generous serving size of CBDl that can potentially give you the mental and physical energy boost you’re looking for. Taking less can still give you positive results but considering the negative impact that low energy can have on our daily lives, we recommend starting with something a bit higher.

Also, take note that cannabidiol is nontoxic, and non-psychoactive. What this means is that taking what may be considered a stronger-than-average dose does not mean that you’re going to get high, or risk side effects. One thing, however, is the fact that going above this amount may result in grogginess, which is something that comes from taking uniquely high doses of CBD, and this can directly interfere with your ability to feel energized, causing a paradoxical effect.

When Should I Take CBD Oil for Energy?

Of course, you want the effects of cannabidiol to kick in when you need to feel the most energized, whether that be in the morning, afternoon or evening. Like we said, it takes about 30 minutes for the effects to kick in, so consider taking a dose about 30 minutes before you want to get the boost you need.

Because the effects of CBD oil can last for about 3-5 hours, you may find that any energy-boosting effects wear off after a while, especially when you’re new to taking CBD and you have less of a cumulative effect working in your favor. In this case, you can absolutely take another dose. People take multiple doses of cannabidiol daily for all kinds of reasons, without any negative effects.

Can I Overdose on CBD Oil?

We understand that you want to be safe when taking CBD oil, but the good news is that, like we said, it’s fully nontoxic to the body – in other words, you won’t experience overdose effects that can be dangerous. If you’re concerned about taking “too much” cannabidiol, you don’t have to worry in the sense of your physical health being harmed in any way. Remember, the body produces cannabinoids, and uses them very efficiently, even if we consume a lot of them. And, keep in mind also that no matter how much CBD you take, you won’t get high, because the cannabinoid has zero psychoactive properties, as it doesn’t work on the same receptors as THC in the brain.

If you take an excessive dose of CBD, you may experience some mild, temporary side effects, such as:

  • Drowsiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Dry eyes
  • Lightheadedness

Clearly, none of these side effects are really dangerous, and while they can be annoying, they rarely last for more than a couple of hours at most. The biggest thing is, like we said, that taking a lot of CBD at once may make you feel drowsy or groggy, which can sabotage your reason for taking it, which is to feel a boost in energy and cognition. And still, not everyone will experience these side effects, even after taking high doses, but they do occur to some individuals.

What to Look for When Choosing the Best CBD Oil

Naturally, if you’re going to invest in CBD oil, you want to know that you’re getting the best of the best.  And, it’s unfortunately surprising just how many companies out there make low-quality CBD oils that are ineffective at best, and even harmful at worst.

So, how do you know that you’re getting top-notch CBD oil, especially as a beginner with little to no frame of reference? Well, here’s a simple checklist of things to look for before buying, to always know that you’re ending up with the quality level you deserve.

  • Third-Party Lab Results: Hemp products must undergo a strict third-party testing process by a state-authorized facility that specializes in testing cannabis. This process ensures that the product being sold is safe, compliant with the law, pure, free of contaminants/harmful microbes, and as potent as it claims to be. This process also analyzes the hemp for whichever cannabinoids and terpenes are present in the formula. With third-party testing, the results should always be printed on a company’s website, which come directly from the lab so that customers can be assured they’re getting what they’re promised.
  • A Clean Formula: Whenever buying CBD, you need to look at the ingredients in the formula, which should be easy to find on a product’s package or on the manufacturer’s website. This is critical as some low-tier companies throw fillers and additives into their products that can be harmful, or simply interfere with the product’s effectiveness. Of course, if you’re using CBD oil for energy, you want to avoid any ingredients that can have sedating effects as well, like certain calming herbs that promote sleep.
  • An Effective Milligram Strength: Always look at the milligram strength in the bottle to make sure you’re getting good value. We recommend 25mg-40mg per ml of CBD oil, which can provide you a generous, effective serving of cannabidiol.
  • Good Reputation/Positive Reviews: Look at reviews provided on a company’s website to make sure that in general, people think highly of their products. Don’t just look on the company’s website, but also check out their reputation on third-party review websites and so on, to get a good feel for how effective their products are according to people who have actually used them.
  • Small-Batch Production: It is always preferred to find a company that produces their CBD in small batches. Why? Because they likely have a stronger handle on quality control, since sometimes standards tend to slip when production increases.

One of the most popular products at Kore Original is our CBD Oil. In fact, many our customers user specifically to get energy-enhancing and focus-enhancing benefits. We offer our oil in 3 strengths per 30ml bottle: 450mg, 750mg, and 1000mg. And, we also offer it in 3 flavors, derived from natural ingredients: peppermint, watermelon and natural, which is unflavored.

Extracted from handpicked, organic Colorado grown-hemp, our CBD oil is extremely bioavailable, and uses coconut-derived MCT oil as its carrier oil to keep the formula entirely vegan and plant-based. It’s also 100% free of THC, which comes from our use of CBD isolate, an ultra-concentrated hemp extract containing only purified cannabidiol for stronger CBD effects.

What Should I Do if My CBD Oil Isn’t Working?

On occasion, someone may reach out to us to tell us that their CBD oil isn’t doing the job they were hoping it would. There are a few common reasons why this is the case, and usually it’s just a matter of making small adjustments to your routine to get the desired results. Remember, CBD oil is not intoxicating, so you won’t feel it kick in like you would with a psychoactive cannabinoid. Instead, it offers a gentle boost.

One thing you can do is increase the milligram strength or dosage amount. If you’re taking, say, 20mg of CBD oil, try taking 30mg, then 40mg until you feel like you’re getting results. We said earlier that some people respond best to higher doses because of their body weight and their endocannabinoid system.

Also, don’t forget, consistency is key, which’s why you should take CBD daily. Cannabinoids work cumulatively to become more effective over time, and thus, can sustain their effects once they’ve built up in the body for longer. That being said, it can take up to 2 weeks of daily use before you start really noticing results, so if you’re not happy just yet, please continue to take CBD for this period of time, every 24 hours, before deciding that the product doesn’t work.

Will Taking CBD Oil Stop Me from Sleeping at Night?

One concern is whether or not the potential energy boost you can get from CBD oil will interfere with sleep. The answer, in short, is no. We talked earlier about how cannabidiol works with our innate circadian rhythm, to help us feel more prepared for rest at night, and more awake and alert during the daytime.  What this means is that if you take a serving of CBD at nighttime around when you go to bed, it’s not going to give you a boost of energy, but instead, in all likelihood, help you unwind.  In fact, numerous studies done over the years have shown that taking CBD at night can help a person feel more mentally calm, and even make it easier to both fall and stay asleep. So basically, you have nothing to worry about.
