When shopping for the best CBD oil, you may notice it comes in three forms: CBD isolate, full-spectrum, and broad-spectrum, but what exactly does this mean?
CBD Isolate:
CBD isolate is extracted from the other 100+ cannabinoids in the hemp plant to single out just the CBD component. Isolate contains 0% THC and is the most effective in accurately measuring the amount of CBD since it’s the only cannabinoid present. It’s best for those who want the highest dosage of CBD.
CBD isolate is our CBD of choice; we use organic CBD from Northern Colorado and Bowling Green, Kentucky that is third-party lab tested to be free from insecticides and pesticides and also tested for metal and microbial content. We prefer to isolate as it’s the purest form of CBD and contains no THC.
Full-Spectrum CBD:
Full-spectrum CBD uses the entire plant including the leaf, stalk, and seeds, which means that all cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and fatty acids are included, including THC.
If you work for the government or in the medical field, you may want to shy away from full-spectrum CBD oil as THC may show up in a drug test. If this is of any concern, CBD isolate is the best way to ensure there is no THC in your system.
While the federal legal limit of THC in CBD is no more than 0.3 percent, if you purchase CBD from a state that has legalized marijuana, full-spectrum CBD may contain higher traces of THC. Always look for third-party lab results to confirm the amount of THC present.
Broad-Spectrum CBD:
Broad-spectrum CBD removes the THC or combines CBD isolate with other cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids to resemble full-spectrum CBD without the presence of THC.
Both full and broad-spectrum CBD is known to create the “entourage effect” since it includes all of the cannabinoids of the hemp or cannabis plant, however, there are few studies on the effects of the other 100+ components found in these plants and their side effects (i.e THC has a psychedelic reaction, whereas CBD does not).
The Takeway:
Regardless of which CBD option you choose, it’s most important to choose a CBD brand that is reputable and clearly lists its test results and dosage amounts. CBD is expensive (costing over $10,000 a pound), so if you’re finding a significantly cheaper price for CBD, then it may not contain as much as labeled.
